APPA's Big Day Out

APPA’s Big Day Out offers delegates the opportunity to step beyond the conference venue and experience Canberra through a curated program of behind-the-scenes tours and site visits. Starting on Monday, 31 August, the Big Day Out includes two guided school tours across a range of education sectors, followed by a choice of themed experiences designed to suit different interests and learning priorities.

Delegates will be invited to select one of three themed streams, with 2–3 venues available within each option:

  • Civics & Citizenship
    Venues may include the Museum of Australian Democracy (MOAD), Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), High Court of Australia, National Film and Sound Archive, and the National Capital Exhibition.

  • Science & Technology
    Venues may include Questacon, CSIRO, National Museum of Australia, National Arboretum, and Mt Stromlo Observatory.

  • History & Art
    Venues may include the National Gallery of Australia, National Portrait Gallery, National Library of Australia, and the Australian War Memorial.

All tours will conclude at the National War Memorial for a wreath laying ceremony. Delegates will then be taken back to the convention centre for the Welcome Reception. 

Places are limited and subject to availability. An additional fee applies, with final venues confirmed closer to the event. Register your Expression of Interest to take part in this unique professional learning experience and we will contact you with more information soon.

Big Day Out Tour EOI

Wellness Afternoon Activities

Wellness Activities will be offered on Wednesday, 2 September, providing delegates with the opportunity to pause, reset and enjoy a more relaxed experience alongside the conference program. These optional activities are designed to support wellbeing while offering a fun and informal way to explore Canberra.

A range of wellness-focused tours and experiences will be available, with options to be confirmed closer to the event. Activities may include:

  • Guided Canberra tours

  • Visits to art galleries and cultural spaces

  • Breweries and wineries

  • Experiences at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS)

These activities will focus on relaxation, wellbeing and enjoyment. Registration is required and an additional fee applies, with places limited and subject to availability. Please register your Expression of Interest for participation and we will contact you with more information soon.

Extended Bookings
We have held rooms for the nights of the conference. If you wish to extend your booking, book your preferred hotel for the conference dates and email mail@conferencedesign.com.au with the additional nights you require. We will confirm the availability with the hotel and send you a new confirmation.

Payment
The total cost of the accommodation will be included on your conference invoice. Once paid, this amount will be transferred to your hotel prior to the conference. 

Credit Card Guarantee
You will need to provide full credit card details (including CCV) during booking as a credit card guarantee. You will also need to provide the hotel with a credit card when you check-in to cover incidental expenses incurred during your stay.

All hotels have charges for cancellations, changes and no shows. These are listed with the hotel descriptions.

Payment

Select a payment option to complete your registration:

  • Credit Card – A tax invoice and receipt will be included in your confirmation email.
  • EFT – A tax invoice with bank details and a payment reference will be included in your confirmation email. Please include the reference with your payment. Overseas payments must include any bank fees.
  • Purchase Order – Enter your purchase order number and it will appear on your tax invoice. If you need a tax invoice to obtain a purchase order, select EFT and email us the purchase order number so we can reissue the invoice.

All registrations must be paid by credit card within 60 days of the conference.
